Synopsis: A middle-grade story about friendship, a wonderful holiday in Paris, and learning that first impressions can be deceiving. It’s the end of Year 7 for Ella and her friends at Eden College. And they can’t believe their luck when they are invited to join their friend Ariel for a movie-award ceremony in Paris! The girls are treated like celebrities and enjoy everything Paris has to offer, from the best hot chocolates to delicious croissants. It feels like the perfect vacation … until a piece of Ariel’s borrowed diamond jewellery goes missing. Can Ella and her friends find the thief and recover the jewellery in time for the ceremony? Or will it be lost forever?

~*~

Ella’s first year at Eden College has come to an end, and she’s ready for a nice, long summer at home with her family. Not long after getting home, though, she gets a call from Ariel, one of her friends at Eden who is a child actress. She wants Ella, Zoe, Violet, and Grace to go to an awards ceremony in Paris with her, and stay with for ten days before Christmas! Ella and her friends are excited! Paris! And with her friends. Ella and her friends get to explore the Eiffel Tower, have the best pastries and hot chocolates, and be dressed like movie stars for the awards.

They’re taken around Paris by Odette, who takes care of them and guides them around the city. That is, until a piece of the expensive diamond that Ariel is going to wear goes missing, Ella and her friends are determined to find it before the ceremony – but they also know it’s going to be hard in a city they don’t know. Whilst trying to contend with Amber Rowland, who seems to have an issue with competing with Ariel.

The latest Ella at Eden mystery brings the first year of Ella’s time at Eden College to a close. This signals a transition for Ella and her friends as they prepare to move up in the school. And it’s a great finale to the year that Ella has just had in this fun middle grade series that I have been following since it was first published. Ella has tried everything at Eden, but has always loved her niche of words and English, making her fun and relatable for kids who love the same things, or who want to give everything a go. This latest addition in Paris allows Ella and her friends to narrate their own chapters in a similar way to the Babysitter’s Club Super Specials did. So, whilst during the rest of the series, we mostly see the stories through Ella’s eyes, this time, Grace, Zoe, Ariel and Violet also get to tell part of the story and what their adventure was like. This was great fun, because it gave great insight into the characters and allows readers to get to know them more.

Heading off to Paris was the perfect way to end the year at Eden College, and was combined with a fun mystery that brought the girls closer together, as well as revealing something about someone they unfairly judged. The Ella books often have little lessons in them and everything Ella has done is threaded through the series, so readers who have been reading since it came out or who have started it from the beginning will appreciate the development and throwbacks. But it’s also a series that can be picked up anywhere, and you’ll still get the gist of what has come before. It’s a gorgeous addition to the series, and a great finale to year seven at Eden College. It’ll be interesting to see if this is the end, as it does make for a great finale, or if there will be more and how far into high school we follow Ella. This is another great addition to the Ella at Eden series.
