Synopsis: A new wacky adventure delivers laugh-out-loud fun as this gaggle of cashed-up guinea pigs (and one silly capybara) become involved in a new ridiculous crime caper.

The mega rich guinea pigs are in trouble!

Lunk, Hot Head, G-Chip and Big Pig (who is actually a capybara, but don’t tell him that) have received a threatening letter from a mysterious villain. To keep themselves and their fat stacks of cash safe, they are whisked away to a Witless Protection Program.

But something doesn’t seem quite right … Have they walked into a trap? They might need more than ButtPay to get out of this one.

~*~

The Mega Rich Guinea Pigs with their ButtPay and the horrible McAloons are back! Everything seems to have calmed down for now…until a death threat arrives, with Morris, Rubella and Ellarea not far behind. Mr Bookman, the guinea pigs lawyer has to usher Lunk, G-Chip, Hot Head and Big Pig (who is really a capybara, but hates being reminded about that fact) into Witness Protection, Or, Witless Protection.

They’re whisked away to a dusty chicken farm filled with duplicates and counterfeits of themselves, but why? What, and who, is trying to get them out of the way? And is the Guinea Pig Protection Society real, or are the McAloons up to their old tricks again? (I’ll let you decide that for yourself!)

The second book in the Mega Rich Guinea Pigs series takes the pigs off on a new adventure, filled with new challenges like doppelgangers and counterfeit guinea pigs, nefarious plans that rely on the people behind them putting proper thought into things. The McAloons are still mad at what happened, and of course will stop at nothing to get what they deserve. But of course, the pigs are much smarter than people think. And nobody ever questions these four pigs speaking, which suits the bonkers nature of the novel.

As things go on, it’s very much a contest of who can outsmart whom, and how the pigs work out how to get away from the farm, back to their money and home. Of course, it doesn’t help that the plans of some of the McAloons are a bit half-baked, with obvious things not being considered, This just contributes to the utter chaos of this story, and the beauty of the guinea pigs outwitting the somewhat witless humans in this story.

The second book ramps things up, taking the pigs in a different direction, and revealing the truth behind the set-up to get the guinea pigs out of their house. It’s a journey of hilarity as the guinea pigs work out what is going on and why, and how they can get the McAloons out of their lives again.

I loved the way the chaos continued in this book, and the world where nobody questions guinea pigs being tennis stars, driving, having lots of money or a lawyer, and everything else in between. There’s something delightfully whimsical about it, something that reminds readers to have fun and reminds them that there are morally reprehensible people in this world who can’t accept their fates. Oh, and a reminder that doing the right thing can be rewarding, helping those in need and using what the villains of the story are saying against them. Brilliant work!

This is a great addition to the series, and has some nice asides from the narrator, as well as red herrings that resolve themselves or hint at a resolution. This book brings a new town, new jokes and new characters into being, breaks several storytelling rules effectively, and ensures that the narrative started in the first book is continued well. It will be interesting to see where the pigs go next.
