~*~

Twins, Noah and Jordie, and their friends, Marco, Mags and Felicity, the GOLF Squad are back. They’re still looking for Grandpa Galileo amongst the 18,000-hole golf course…he’s been down one of the holes for 20 years, and Uncle GOOF is determined that at 3pm, he is going to demolish the golf course for his boring hotel. Time is against them, and things are happening fast, especially once they’re sucked into hole 7,496, par 9. But it’s not smooth sailing.

There’s giant sand zombies, spiders, lava hazards, and angry cacti that are trying to stop them finding Grandpa Galileo. Saving him means saving the golf course from being destroyed and made into the most boring place ever. It’s hot, it’s dangerous, it’s spiky…and it’s their last chance to get Grandpa Galileo back.

Not to mention the annoying pop-up shop keeper who keeps trying to get them to take things he thinks will help them. Oh, and did I mention the mummies who want to use the lava and sand to make the GOLF Squad join them?

And so the end of the adventure begins with this book as the friends start on the last part of their journey to save Grandpa Galileo before the golf course is destroyed by the boring, fancy relatives. This book is fast paced, with action happening on every page to move things along, and fit with the rest of the series.

The golf course and its holes filled with whimsy, wonder and danger have shaped the series, moving towards the final hole they need to enter to complete their quest. It takes the tropes and themes of the quest, and puts them in a golfing setting with a twist. It’s great to see a different kind of sports book around that isn’t just from a sports star or that is a sports romance. I think that’s what makes this series so fun. It doesn’t take itself seriously, I found it really creative and the humour works very well. And it has heart, it has a voice that is clear and strong.

A fun golfing setting that shows how people can make things they might find boring fun within a magical world that might seem a bit ludicrous to some. Yet in this series, it works so well. It makes sense and it is something that will appeal to kids.

I have enjoyed reading these books, and think that the last one wraps things up very well, and was satisfied with how it all came together. It worked well as a shorter series as well, and will hopefully be a series that many will enjoy, and that will be something fun for readers for years to come.
