In 2024, I read nine books by men who weren’t from Australia. Two of these books were anthologies that included works by men, which is why I have included them here. Some books have crossover in a few ways, so I have tried to reflect that as much as I can. As my focus was on Australian authors, and in particular women and authors who don’t get as much attention. I do this because those authors have stories to tell that are just as important, and often much more engaging than hyped or popular books. I will add that one of the books on this list is something that everyone loves, and I could not see the appeal of it. I often have this happen with popular authors and books, because for whatever reason the story either doesn’t appeal to me or work for me when I read it. It has shown me that not every book is for everyone, and that it is okay to dislike popular books and authors. Because, if we all read the same things, it would be pretty boring and there are lots of gems out there in the books that don’t get the attention they deserve.
