~*~

Alison Lester’s beloved Noni the Pony and her friends, Dave Dog are here to help children learn the alphabet. It’s a fun rhyming story, where each bit is about one letter of the alphabet using a character, item or place from the Noni the Pony world. So come along, and meet Noni, the friendliest pony in the world, play with her and her friends, and learn the alphabet along the way.

This fun, educational book is all about the joy of words and letters in a familiar world that many Australians are likely to know. And it comes from one of Australia’s beloved picture book creators, whose magical worlds bring joy to readers of all ages. In this one, the animals and the farm are what makes the story work.

It’s also very cute and engaging, filled with colour and whimsy that readers of all ages will love. I love alphabet books that have something a little different than the usual ones, as they can engage the right audience, their audience. It means that there will be something out there for everyone looking for a good alphabet book for their family or class.

It’s lovely that we have so many picture books around these days. Different themes, different stories, and different authors, creating a diverse selection of books that talk about so many things. Following along and having fun with the alphabet is something that children in preschool and kindergarten will enjoy. They can use what they learn at school at home in a fun way, and schools can share this in conjunction with teaching the alphabet.

This was a fun book, and one that I hadn’t expected to get in my review package. Alison Lester has been a staple of Australian kids books since I was a young reader, perhaps even before. So it feels like she will be one of those trusted voices that people gravitate towards and want to read. Her books are timeless and have a magic in them that so many readers have fallen in love with.

N is for Noni is a fun book, and one that I hope readers embrace for younger readers.
