Hervé Tullet’s latest book in his interactive learning series is called Tap, Tap, Tap. Dane, Dance, Dance, where he uses bright colours, simple instructions, and gentle encouragement to encourage children to embrace creativity and learning in children of all ages, from baby to toddler and beyond. Using bright primary colours that splash and dance across the page, readers use their hands to try and follow the textual prompts that they read or have read to them – younger children may need to be shown what to do, but it’s a fun way to bond, and see if you can do it with your little one.

The interactivity of this book is different to others I have seen and read, where the interactive bits are very tactile, like bits that feel different, puppets or lift the flap books, but this encourages children to move their hands with the story, in motion with the words and images on the pages. It encourages creative play, and gentle movement – mindfulness to work on when kids are sitting down calmly or after a long day. It’s a book that can be read and played with at the same time, and younger children in preschool will enjoy this, but it will also make a good class set – so each child can perform the actions as the words are read to them, or read the book themselves if they are able to read and do the actions – I tried, and I think smaller hands will find it a bit easier, but it was fun trying.

This is the kind of book that can help with mindfulness and creativity, and one that I think will be well received and enjoyed. Its focus on creativity and helping children learn about movement and primary colours will help prepare them for school and show them that learning is fun, especially when it comes to movement, rhythm, colour, and shapes which will show them that they can have fun with education as well.
